This is the beginning stage of football where kids learn the fundamentals of the game. There is very little contact and players do not wear pads, however mouthguards are required. Player development at this stage sets the tone for their future development as football players. Our coaches work with the kids to teach them the proper techniques that they will carry with them to the next level.
Tackle I
The second stage of development begins with players getting more conditioning. Since this is the first level where pads and helmets will be worn, players need to develop stamina in order to play at their best. Games are played on a shorter and more narrow field and time limits are less than normal middle and high school games.
As the name suggests, this is also their first experience with "real" football. Tackling techniques are taught from the beginning to ensure the safety of the players. Players are also required to be under 95 pounds in order to carry the ball and 10 year old players playing "down" in this league are required to play ONLY offensive and defensive line positions. This also ensuresplayer safety.
Tackle II
The final stage of development in the RCYFL is Tackle II. At this level, players play on a full length and width field and play a game more closely resembling that of middle and high school football. This is to get them ready for the next level of play.
